EPOS


During the 27th meeting of the European Paediatric Ophthalmology Group EPOG in Regensburg in September 2001, it was decided to found The European Paediatric Ophthalmological Society, EPOS.

The constitutional session was held in Geneva in October 2001. In order to document the long tradition of the group, it has been decided to count upcoming meetings from the first EPOG meeting on.

The first board of EPOS was elected at the 28th meeting of EPOS formerly EPOG in Figueira da Foz in October 2002.

A new president and treasurer was elected at the 9th general assembly in Bad Nauheim. The office was committetd after almost 10 years of service from Birgit Lorenz to Nicoline Schalij-Delfos.

At the 11th general assembly in Uppsala, Dr. Nikolas Ziakas (Thessaloniki, Greece) was appointed president elect.

Darius Hildebrand (Oxford, UK) was elected president of EPOS at the 16th annual meeting in Oxford.

Objectives

The aims of the Society are:

  1. To bring together ophthalmologists, paediatricians, geneticists, electrophysiologists, and basic researchers interested in the field of paediatric ophthalmology and in particular genetic diseases of the eye.
  2. To provide a forum for researchers in the field of paediatric ophthalmology and in particular genetic diseases of the eye to discuss openly and to share information
  3. To encourage in particular young clinicians and scientists to specialise in paediatric ophthalmology and genetic diseases of the eye.
  4. To promote European collaborations in the study of paediatric ophthalmology and genetic diseases of the eye.
  5. To disseminate scientific knowledge throughout Europe, especially by yearly conferences.
